Queen Carnival

(P04620VMFF)

Sometimes you just don't know what to think when you find a photo like this.

Imagine being an attendant in a Queen Carnival, probably in Maffra. You get all excited about the lovely dress they will make for you to wear, and instead they dress you up as a root vegetable!

Yes, those two girls (not the ones in darker clothing, with a "Gippsland" sash), the ones who look like they are in strait jackets with an absurd concoction on their heads to complete the vegetables, are dressed up as sugar beet! Poor Dears.

We know nothing about this photo, except we suspect there may be a member of the Waugh family in there somewhere. We have Troved in the Maffra Spec until our fingers are to the bone. So it is either after 1920, or didn't make the paper.

Looks a bit like the relief of Mafeking though.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Or recognise anyone?
